DVT - Living With Deep Vein Thrombosis

Is It hereditary? Vitamin K Deficiency? Which therapy is better Asprin or Coumadin? Those are the questions I have and these are the facts. Me and my father have both suffered from blood clots. My father had a blood clot in his leg travel to his lungs. It almost killed him. His doctor put him on asprin therapy after a small stint on coumadin. He is in his seventies. I also had a blood clot in my upper thigh. It felt like a muscle cramp. Now I have an IVC and am on coumadin therapy for what the doctor has told me was for the rest of my life. I am thirty six. I am curious to why me and my dad have different therapies and will dedicate this website to researching about deep vein thrombosis, inferior vena cava filters, coumadin, heparin, and all things DVT.

A few years ago I had a blood clot form in my upper thigh. It felt like a muscle cramp initially but soon landed me in the hospital. I was in admitted twice to the emergancy room through this four month stint, and I was in intensive care twice. I had a catheter (very painful) my second time in because of they wanted me to stay immobile.  I was on Heprin. I do believe that Heprin caused my second clot (research has proven this now). I now have an IVC filter installed also known as an inferior vena cava filter. It was inserted though my penis (fun). And I have decided to keep a journal of the dealings I had in the hospital, the research I have done on DVT's, the information I find on the medicines to treat DVT's/blood clots, and to document life afterwards. It has been at least 2 years since the surgery and I feel fine but there are things we need to cover...
